UNC Chemist to Present Research on Using Cannabis to Treat Cancer

Richard Hyslop

University of Northern Colorado Professor Richard M. Hyslop and colleague Corina Brown will discuss their cutting-edge research and preliminary findings on developing cannabis-based cancer treatments as featured speakers at the American Chemical Society National Meeting and Exposition in San Francisco, Aug. 10-14.

Hyslop has been involved in cancer research for 35 years and is leading a team of scientists from UNC in the research on behalf of Nuvilex in developing targeted cannabis-based cancer treatments through the use of the company's live cell encapsulation technology. The goal of the research is to develop an approach to treating "solid" tumors, initially those of the brain and pancreas, with cannabinoids of the cannabis plant.
