The University of Northern Colorado's School of Music will host the fourth annual Colorado International Piano Academy July 20-Aug. 2, featuring world-renowned pianists and piano teachers from top music schools in the U.S., Asia and Europe presenting concerts, master classes and lectures.
Evening performances open to the public by academy guest artists and faculty include:
- Wednesday, July 23 - Faculty Joint Concert: "A Journey Around the World through Piano," featuring Changxin Guan, professor of piano at the China Conservatory of Music in Beijing; South African pianist Stephen Pierce; and Lei Weng, professor of piano at UNC and organizer of the academy.
- Sunday, July 27 - Guest Artist Concert: "Masterpieces of the 20th Century Transcription," featuring award-winning soloist Michael Chertock, chair of keyboard studies at the University of Cincinnati.
- Thursday, July 31 - Guest Artist Concert: "Piano Masterpieces," featuring award-winning German pianist Thomas Duis, winner of the Sydney, Rubinstein and Bachauer international competitions and rector/professor at Germany's Hochschule des Saarlandes für Musik und Theater.
All three concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Milne Auditorium in Kepner Hall, 800 17th St. Free parking is available in UNC parking lots after 5 p.m. and all day on weekends.
Adult tickets are $10 for each concert. A pass for all three is available for $20. Non-UNC students, anyone under 18 and those over 60 pay $5 per concert. Tickets for UNC students and employees with current UNC identification are free. Tickets include a post-concert reception.

The academy also includes two free concerts on July 28 and July 30 performed by emerging young artists from notable music programs throughout the United States and Asian conservatories and universities.
