The University of Northern Colorado will use a $3,800 grant from the Colorado State Library to purchase materials that will support the expansion of the university's early childhood education curriculum.
The expansion reflects a current emphasis on early learning and school readiness at the national and state levels.
Professional development resources in the areas of early literacy and child development acquired with grant funds will be used by faculty and students, as will books for children ages 3-6.
The school's University Libraries division received the grant through the State Grants to Libraries Act, which was funded by the Colorado Legislature this year to help increase access to early literacy and educational materials. The non-competitive program administered by the Colorado State Library has funded a combined total of 290 public and academic libraries, and school districts in the 2013-14 fiscal year.
