UNC's Family and Friends Weekend Offers a Slice of College Life

Families and friends of the campus community at the University of Northern Colorado will experience a variety of student activities Oct. 18-20 during the annual Family and Friends Weekend. The longtime tradition includes food, festivities and fun.

The weekend's events start Friday with Alumni College, a chance for UNC alumni and friends to take leadership-themed mini-courses without quizzes from faculty members from a variety of disciplines.

Hosted by the UNC Alumni Association, classes take place from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in the University Center.

Tuition is $10 and includes breakfast and lunch. Pre-registration by midnight Oct. 14 is required. To see a list of courses and professors or to register online, visit http://bit.ly/AlumniCollege.

Also on Friday, UNC's Athletics department hosts the 13th Annual Blue & Gold Club Reverse Raffle and Auction, featuring a 1-in-300 chance to win $10,000.

The festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. in the University Center ballrooms. The evening includes dinner, live and silent auctions and fun interactions with boosters, parents, student-athletes and coaches.

Call 351-2979 for ticket prices and dinner reservations, which will be accepted until the event starts.

Friday concludes with a special Family and Friends edition of Bingo starting at 8:30 p.m. in the University Center ballrooms. It's free to play and a variety of prizes are available for winners.

Saturday's events start with a 5k Fun Run and Walk at 8 a.m. at the Campus Recreation Center. Cost is $15, which includes a T-shirt and snacks. Registration begins at 7 a.m. Call 970-351-2509 for more information.

Also on Saturday, the UNC Alumni Association's Bear Village tailgate starts at 11:30 a.m. in the upper M parking lot just north of the ticketing office at Nottingham Stadium. Admission is free.

Then at 1:35 p.m. the UNC Bears take on the University of California - Davis in the Family and Friends Weekend football game. Discounted general admission tickets are available for $10 for family members and friends of UNC students. Purchase tickets at www.unco.edu/tickets or call 970-351-4849.

Saturday night, hypnotist and comedian "The Incredible Boris" takes the stage at 8 p.m. in the University Center ballrooms. Admission is free.

Special dinners will be offered 5-6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and brunch will be served 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in both Tobey-Kendel and Holmes halls. Discounted tickets of $7 for each all-you-can-eat meal are available at the halls for students' family members and friends.

Free parking on campus will be available in regular and metered spaces, with the exceptions of special event parking for the football game Saturday and parking in specially marked spaces, fire lanes and non-designated spaces.
