If you're going to be taking classes or working on campus this summer, listen up. From May 20-June 2 there will be no pedestrian access to the lower level of the University Center, and except for the UNC Bookstore and Fan Shop, the businesses on that level will be closed while workers remove all the floor tiles, which are significantly deteriorated. The bookstore will observe normal summer operating hours, but access will be from an exterior entrance on the south side of the building. Please be aware of these other aspects of the anticipated two-week closure:
- All retail dining outlets will be closed. Since the dining halls are also closed for their annual thorough cleanings, there will be no food service on campus for those two weeks. Please plan accordingly.
- The Computer Commons will be closed. However, the computer lab in room 101 in McKee Hall will be open Monday-Thursday, 7 a.m.-10 p.m.; Friday- 7 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday: 10 a.m.-7 p.m. May 20-June 2. The Computer Commons will re-open Monday, June, 3.
- Information about other lower level businesses can be found on the UC website, which also contains dates when the businesses are scheduled to re-open and up-to-date information regarding project progress and potential service disruptions.
Please be aware that installation of the new floor tiles after June 2 will be an ongoing process and is likely to last through the end of July or early August. As you navigate the University Center this summer, please be mindful of signs and other identifying markers designating walkways and construction work areas.
UC staff apologize for the inconvenience this important upgrade to your student center will cause and appreciate your patience and understanding. After months of planning, it was determined that there wasn't any way to safely provide pedestrian access while the tiles are being removed.
