Faculty and staff are reminded that the university's official electronic delivery method for communicating most campus news, announcements and events to faculty, staff and students is through its e-newsletters: UNC Today, which is emailed to all faculty and staff, and Around Campus, which is emailed to all students. Making announcements through the e-newsletters reduces, and in most cases eliminates, the need for sending a topic-specific e-mail to all faculty, classified staff, exempt staff and students through Listservs.
In certain cases, there are exceptions that warrant sending individual announcements directly to one or all
of the student, faculty and staff Listservs. These include:
- Emergency messages sent from UNC's Emergency Alert System.
- Messages deemed of critical importance from the offices of university president, provost, chief financial officer, UNC Police, university relations, general counsel, human resources,
information technology and dean of students.
More information about UNC's regulations regarding mass emails to faculty, staff or students starts on page 88 of the University Regulations on the Board of Trustees website.
