UNC's Family and Friends Weekend Showcases Student Activities

Families and friends of the campus community at the University of Northern Colorado will experience a variety of student activities Oct. 19-21 during the university's annual Family and Friends Weekend.

The longtime tradition includes food, festivities and fun.

Friday's events include a special Family and Friends edition of bingo starting at 8:30 p.m. in the University Center ballrooms, intersection of 20th Street and 10th Avenue. It's free to play and a variety of prizes are available for winners.

Also on Friday, UNC's Athletics department hosts the 12th Annual Blue & Gold Club Reverse Raffle and Auction, featuring a 1-in-300 chance to win $10,000, starting at 5:30 p.m. in Butler-Hancock Sports Pavilion. The evening also includes dinner, live and silent auctions, one-of-a-kind entertainment and fun interactions with boosters, parents, student-athletes and coaches. Saturday's events start with a 5k Fun Run and Walk at 8 a.m. at the Campus Recreation Center. Cost is $15, which includes a T-shirt and snacks. Registration begins at 7 a.m. Call 970-351-2509 for more information.

Also on Saturday, the UNC Alumni Association's Bear Garden Tailgate will run from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the east plaza at Nottingham. Admission is free and food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Then at 1:35 p.m. the UNC Bears take on the Idaho State University Bengals in the Family and Friends Weekend football game. Discounted general admission tickets are available for $10 for family members and friends of UNC students. Purchase tickets at www.unco.edu/tickets or call 970-351-4849.

Saturday night, comedian Ronnie Jordan takes the stage at 8 p.m. in the University Center ballrooms. Admission is free.

Special dinners will be offered 5-6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and brunch will be served 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in both Tobey-Kendel and Holmes halls. Discounted tickets of $7 for each all-you-can-eat meal are available at the halls for students' family members and friends.

Free parking on campus will be available in regular and metered spaces, with the exceptions of special event parking for the football game Saturday and parking in specially marked spaces, fire lanes and non-designated spaces.
