The Teaching and Learning Fair, a lecture by the Hewit Distinguished Professor of History and Research Day are just three of the many events during Academic Excellence Week, UNC's annual celebration of academic excellence and scholarly pursuits.

• Teaching and Learning Fair: 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, in the University Center will allow faculty from a variety of disciplines to exchange ideas that foster academic excellence. Topics will include best practices for teaching and learning including assignments, teaching techniques and pedagogy; assessment techniques; teaching tools that engage all levels of students; and advising activities. • Hewit Distinguished Professor of History: Philip Deloria, professor of History at the University of Michigan and the 2012 Hewit Distinguished Professor of History at UNC, will present a free public lecture and book signing at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, in the Panorama room at the University Center. Deloria's lecture is titled "What an Unknown Artist Might Tell Us About the 1930s, the United States, Celebrity, Anthropology, and a Few Other Things Besides." Deloria is the author of Indians In Unexpected Places and Playing Indian, both of which will be available for purchase and signing. All are welcome to attend.
• Research Day: Students and their faculty sponsors will use a variety of media and methods to present and discuss current research in a wide range of disciplines 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday, April 12, throughout the University Center's second floor. • Distinguished Scholar Luncheon: UNC's Faculty Research and Publications Board will honor the 2012 A.M. and Jo Winchester Distinguished Scholar, college scholars and grant awardees 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 12, in the University Center Panorama room. • College- and School-Hosted Events: A variety of UNC's colleges, schools and programs will honor faculty and student academic achievement with convocations, banquets and other events during the week.
