Theatre Arts Student Advances to National Competition

Students from UNC's School of Theatre Arts and Dance participated at the regional Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival at Colorado State University. In the Design Technology competition, senior Katie Gruenhagen took first place, earning her the right to travel to Washington, D.C., April 16-21 to compete at the prestigious Kennedy Center national conference.

Senior Chris Lundahl placed second in the Lighting Design category.

Seven UNC students were among the 254 competitors in the festival's acting competition. While none earned a trip to the national festival, Aisha Jackson was named Second Alternate, David San Miguel made it into the competition's final round, and Jeff Zicker and Brenna Larson made it as far as the semi-finals.

Their scene partners Included Dorian Mapp, Danielle Click, Anna Landy and Adam Fontana.

The Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival is a national theater program with more than 18,000 participants annually.

Region VII is comprised of nine western states including Alaska, northern California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, northern Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming. In addition to the competitions, students participated in workshops, attended symposia and professional presentations and worked with resident artists.
