Rashida Banerjee, assistant professor of Special Education at the University of Northern Colorado, is the recipient of the Council for Exceptional Children’s 2009 Student Research Award in the Quantitative Methodology category. Banerjee was recognized for a study conducted while she was a doctoral student at the University of Kansas, titled "Morning or Afternoon: Does it Make a Difference in Early Childhood Programs?" The study used a mixed-methods design, including multilevel analysis, to test the hypothesis that if relevant differences in child, family and teacher characteristics were accounted for, children in morning sessions would perform as well as children in afternoon sessions in achieving social and cognitive outcomes.
