University of Northern Colorado President Kay Norton delivered her annual State of the University address Tuesday, Sept. 25, to a capacity crowd in the University Center ballrooms.
Norton shared 10 things she's learned as "a UNC student" since becoming president 10 years ago. She elaborated on that list of 10 items during the speech:

The University of Northern Colorado Police Department will take part in National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day Saturday, Sept. 29, by accepting unwanted or expired medications from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the A-1 (lower) parking lot on the north side of the University Center.
Only medications in a plastic bags or prescription bottles will be accepted. Items that will not be accepted include liquid medications, glass bottles and medical marijuana.

There's still time to register their group, department or organization for the seventh annual Cans to Candelaria campus-wide food/cash drive competition to benefit the Weld Food Bank. See details. While all non-perishable food items and cash donations are appreciated, some food items are in higher demand than others, including:
Cash donations help the Weld Food Bank purchase needed items and pay for transportation to bring donated food to Greeley from places throughout the country.
For groups collecting money, each $1 will count as the equivalent of six pounds of food for the final tally.
Registration forms and information about challenging other groups or organizing a food drive in your class, club, department or office are available at the Cans to Candelaria website or by emailing canstocandelaria@hotmail.com.
Guitarist Peter Bernstein will appear with the University of Northern Colorado's Jazz Faculty Quartet at this season's first installment of the Sunset Jazz Artist Concert Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, in the Panorama room in the University Center, intersection of 20th Street and 10th Avenue.
Admission is $10 for the general public, free for UNC students and faculty/staff with ID and $7 for non-UNC students or faculty/staff with ID and seniors. Tickets are available at the door only; reservations are not necessary. Free parking is available in lots adjacent to the University Center.
Bernstein has been praised by guitar legend Jim Hall as "one of the most impressive young guitarists," and has been part of the jazz scene both in New York and abroad since 1989.
As a celebrated performer and recording artist, Bernstein has played with legendary drummer Jimmy Cobb (Cobb's Mob), pianist Brad Mehldau, organist Larry Goldings, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Melvin Rhyne, drummer Bill Stewart, Joshua Redman, Diana Krall, Nicholas Payton, Lee Konitz, Tom Harrell, John Scofield, Eric Alexander, Lou Donaldson, and Larry Grenadier.
Bernstein teaches at New York University, and has served on the faculties at the Julliard School, Berklee College of Music, North Texas State University, the New School Jazz Program and the Jazz Conservatory in Amsterdam.
Recognized in both the readers' and critics' polls in Downbeat Magazine for the past three years, he continues to hone his style through writing and performing and has developed a distinctive and unforgettable guitar sound that is all his own.
Bernstein will be joined by UNC Jazz Faculty Quartet members Dana Landry, Erik Applegate, Jim White and Steve Kovalcheck.
In addition to the performance, Bernstein will conduct a free Sunset Jazz Artist Clinic at 3 p.m. in room 63 of Frasier Hall, intersection of 9th Avenue and 17th Street.
The Sunset Jazz Artist Concert Series is presented by the UNC Jazz Studies Program and issupported by the UNC student chapter of the Jazz Education Network.

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program will host an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast 8-10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at Applebee's, 4100 10th St. in Greeley with proceeds going to support RSVP programs. Tickets are $5 and includes pancakes, sausage and coffee or juice.

The Women's Resource Center at the University of Northern Colorado will hold the 19th annual "Take Back the Night" march and rally against violence and sexual assault from 6:30-8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27, at the Garden Theatre on the UNC campus.
The event's aim to unify members of the campus and Greeley communities against violence toward people of all genders, ethnicities and sexual orientations and to promote awareness of the attitudes and behaviors that perpetuate violence.
A march from the Garden Theater will wind through campus and end at the University Center after the rally.
