The Faculty Research and Publications Board seeks nominations for UNC's 2014 A.M. and Jo Winchester Distinguished Scholar Award, with a Oct. 11 deadline. This prestigious award is given annually to a scholar who has demonstrated continued excellence in scholarly activity at UNC for at least five years
Faculty and professional staff members are invited to nominate an appropriate scholar they believe has demonstrated outstanding scholarly performance on a consistent basis throughout the person's academic career. Persons nominated in previous years but not selected can be nominated again.
A guide sheet containing the specifics for the form and substance of nomination materials can be found on the Office of Sponsored Programs website.
Nominations and supporting materials should be presented in no more than a 2-inch binder and must be presented to Sherry May in the OSP (Kepner 25) by 5 p.m., Friday, Oct.11.
The Dean of Students Office is looking for student speakers to give the welcome message at each of the two undergraduate commencement ceremonies on Saturday, Dec. 14. If you know any students who'll be graduating with a GPA of 2.8 or higher, who have been involved in campus life and who would be interested in sharing their thoughts with their fellow graduates at their college's commencement ceremony, please encourage them to apply. More information and application forms are on the Dean of Students' website.
The deadline for applications is Oct. 4.

The Research Consulting Lab in the Applied Statistics and Research Methods Department, which offers consulting in research study and survey design, data collection and data analysis, will also host introductory workshops for users of SPSS or SAS data management/statistical analysis software and NVivo qualitative analysis software during the next two weeks.

All workshops will be held in the Research Consulting Lab (McKee 537). SPSS and SAS are installed on all the computers in the lab and will be available to the participants.
Software training sessions are scheduled regularly and are listed on the ASRM website.
The Research Consulting Lab in McKee 537 (351-1495) is currently open from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 2-8 p.m. Sunday.
Consultants are available to provide advice and guidance with research study and survey design, data collection, and data analysis.

The Office of the Registrar will host a Curriculum Refresher Workshop later this month for faculty and staff, who can attend either one of two duplicate sessions. Topics will include an overview of the curriculum process and curriculum rules.
