Northern Colorado's swimming & diving team had the seventh highest grade point average spring semester among Division I teams in the nation, marking the eighth consecutive semester the team earned the Scholar All-America award from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.
The Bears' 3.57 GPA for the semester also was the second highest among their Western Athletic Conference rivals -- just behind Northern Arizona's 3.58 GPA -- and the highest among Colorado schools.
The University of Kentucky topped the CSCAA's list for spring semester with a 3.72 GPA, followed by the University of Arkansas - Little Rock with a 3.68. Other top 10 schools included Alabama, UNLV, New Mexico and Illinois State.
The Bears recorded the 11th best GPA in the country for the 2013 fall semester.
"I'm really proud that the girls continue to improve in the classroom as well as in the water," Head Coach Kelly McClanahan said. "It shows that their hard work paid off and resulted in well-deserved recognition for them, the program and the university."
The CSCAA requires a minimum 3.0 team GPA for the Scholar All-America Team award. Founded in 1922, the association is the oldest professional organization of college coaches in America and teams with Nike to support the Scholar All-America program.
