A year ago, Karen DeMello was too weak from cancer treatments to take part in the Race Against Cancer, the annual 5k run/walk on July 4 to benefit UNC's Rocky Mountain Cancer Rehabilitation Institute. The University of Northern Colorado's office in Colorado Springs has been closed to allow staff members who live in neighborhoods affected by the Waldo Canyon fire to comply with evacuation or pre-evacuation orders. The office will remain closed until July 5.
The two UNC classes scheduled for June 30 and July 1 at UNC's facility on Oracle Boulevard have been canceled to accommodate students and faculty affected by the fire.

As the university community's thoughts are with the residents affected by the state's wildfires and the brave responders, UNC is contacting incoming, current and returning students whose permanent addresses are in the areas of the fires. Students in need are being offered a range of services, from making accommodations to move in early to residence halls to counseling services provided on campus.
