The Office of the Provost is now accepting nominations for the annual Academic Excellence Awards, with a deadline of 5 p.m. Friday, March 22. Nominations are being sought for the following awards:

The University of Northern Colorado's celebration of Black History Month continues Thursday, Feb. 21, when motivational speaker Byron Embry, who President Barack Obama has described as "as dynamic as they come," will present "The Whistle that Changed America: The Murder of Emmett Till," from 7-8 p.m. in the University Center's ballrooms.
His presentation about the 1955 murder of a 14-year-old black youth from Chicago while he was visiting relatives in Mississippi, is free and open to the public. The incident brought the issue of violence against blacks by whites in the South to the attention of the rest of the nation and was an early impetus of the Civil Rights Movement.

Members of the Black Student Union will present "Living Out Our Dreams" at 7 p.m. in Lindou Auditorium in Michener Library.
Bring your own lunch to the Marcus Garvey Cultural Center and enjoy a Black History Month feature film from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
All events are open to the public and free unless noted otherwise.

Black History Month at UNC is sponsored by the Marcus Garvey Cultural Center, the Africana Studies program, Black Student Union, Black Women of Today, Black Men of Today, Michener Library and Dining Services.

The music of School of Music Director David Caffey will be performed by the Colorado Jazz Orchestra during the Sunset Jazz Artist Concert beginning at 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 21, in the University Center Panorama room.
Admission is free for UNC faculty, staff and students with ID; $10 for the general public, $7 for non-UNC students or faculty/staff with ID; and $7 for seniors.

UNC's Spring Job and Internship Fair will be 1-4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, in the University Center ballrooms. The event is open to all students and alumni who are looking for jobs or internships. More than 75 companies and organizations will be at the fair with representatives recruiting students from all majors for a wide variety of positions.
Industries represented at the fair include financial services, criminal justice, communications and media, general business/business services, government, non-profit, retail and others.

Proposals for the 2013 Summer Support Initiative for faculty and academic staff are now being accepted with a submission deadline of noon on March 15. The program supports research, scholarship, creative works and grant writing in a competitive call for proposals. Information on the program, including eligibility considerations, proposal requirements and evaluation criteria is included on the Office of Sponsored Programs website.

The Classified Staff Council and the Professional Administrative Staff Council are accepting nominations for each of their 2012 Employee of the Year Awards, with a deadline of Tuesday, March 5.

The awards will be presented at the 42nd Annual Employee Recognition and Service Milestone Awards Banquet on March 25.
