News and PR Seeks Holiday Help Stories

UNC's News and Public Relations office is looking for examples of initiatives undertaken by the campus community to help the less fortunate during the holidays. If you, your office, department or program are making someone's holiday season better, contact Gary Dutmers, 351-1940 by 5 p.m. tomorrow, Dec. 19.

How to Find Out About University Closures

There's a variety of ways to find out if UNC is closed due to weather or for some other reason.

  • You can call the inclement weather line at 970-351-4100 or log on to http://www.unco.edu for updates on the university's operating status.
  • Closures are also reported to area media outlets, including Denver TV stations.
  • Also, notifications of closures are sent to campus phones and computers through voice, e-mail and text messages and to subscribed cell phones through text and voice messages from UNC's Emergency Alert system.

If you receive an emergency alert saying the university is closed, calling the UNC Police Department to confirm the information is not necessary.

Minimum Wage Increases Jan. 1

Effective Jan. 1, the Colorado minimum wage will increase to $7.78 per hour from $7.64 per hour. Payroll Services will adjust hourly rates for all current employees who are making less than $7.78 per hour. No paperwork is needed for current employees.

EPAF originators should tale note of this and submit new employees at the new rate of $7.78 or higher.

Fall Semester Grades Due Dec. 19

The deadline for submitting final grades for fall semester courses is 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec.19. Grades submitted after the deadline will negatively affect students' financial aid or graduation. Please direct questions to Michelle Heiny in the Registrar's Office, 351-1839. Grade explanations and instructions for assigning final grades are available on the Registrar's website.

Electronic Xtender Document Viewing Made Simpler

A one-page informational document designed to enhance the use of WebXtender when travel advance requests are submitted is now available as a Word file on the Accounts Payable website. Since it pertains to UNC Visa Card (Pcard) reallocation, please share the document with administrative assistants in your area who may be assigned that task.

UC's Computer Commons Lab Open during Interim Session

The Computer Commons lab in the University Center will be the only computer lab open during the interim session.(Dec. 17-Jan. 11). Days and hours of operation will be:

  • Monday-Thursday: 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
  • Friday: 7 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
  • Closed: Dec. 24-26 and Dec. 31-Jan. 1

All campus computer labs will resume their normal hours on Monday, Jan. 14.
