Homecoming Royalty Nominations Due Sept. 8

Homecoming will be celebrated the week of Sept. 23, and it's time to nominate students for the 2013 Homecoming Royalty.

If you know full-time seniors graduating in December or May who are positive role models, academically driven and passionate about UNC, you can nominate them by 10 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8 using this convenient online form.

To be considered for Homecoming Royalty, a student must:

  • Be a graduating senior (Fall 2013 or Spring 2014)
  • Be a full-time student (12 or more credit hours)
  • Be a positive role model
  • Show Bear Pride for UNC
  • Carry a 3.00 GPA or above

Students must be nominated by other students, faculty or staff. Self-nominations will not be accepted.

This year's Homecoming Royalty election is sponsored by the Student Alumni Association and Office of Student Activities. To find out more about the SAA, visit their website.

UNC Football vs. CSU-Pueblo

It's UNC vs. CSU-Pueblo on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 1:35 p.m. at Nottingham Field. Bring your student ID to get in for free and don't forget your Bear Pride! Tickets for visiting friends or family can be purchased at the University Center Info Desk, by calling 970-351-4849 or at the gate on a space-available basis. Go Bears!

Class of 2017 Photo-Postcard Ready

Class of 2017 photo-postcards are now available! Stop by the Student Activities Office to pick yours up. It's on the second floor of the University Center, directly above Subway, and is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Lockers Available to Rent at UC

Did you know the University Center has lockers that students can rent by the day, semester or academic year? Located next to Wells Fargo, lockers are free on a daily basis for all students while using the UC. Long-term lockers can be rented only by students who live off-campus. Rental rates are $15 per semester, $25 per academic year and $10 for the summer. If interested in long-term rental or you have questions about locker usage, email James Kohles or stop by the Student Activities Office in the UC.

Documentary Film Night on Turner Green

Head over to Turner Green at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7 to watch the documentary "Happy." This film allows viewers to journey from the swamps of Louisiana to the slums of Kolkata in search of what really makes people happy. Combining real life stories of people from around the world and powerful interviews with leading scientists in happiness research, "Happy" explores the secrets behind this emotion. Written by Wadi Rum Films, Inc.

Construction Crane Operations to Close Areas North of Lawrenson Hall Saturday Morning

Members of the campus community are advised that a large construction crane will be set up on the north side of Lawrenson Hall from 7 a.m.-noon tomorrow, Sept. 7, to move equipment on to the building's roof. The following areas will be closed for safety:

  • The area north of Lawrenson Hall
  • The area between Lawrenson Hall and North Hall
  • F lot

Please plan to avoid these areas if possible. If you must travel near the operations, stay alert and follow the directions of signs and on-site safety personnel.
