UNC will celebrate the start of a new academic year Friday with the time-honored tradition of Convocation and newer traditions that emphasize food and fun, such as a Taste of UNC and Bear Fest, which immediately follow Convocation on Turner Green. There's also They're just some of the many events that are part of this year's Bear Welcome.
Off-Campus Life and the city of Greeley seek faculty, staff and student volunteers to join community leaders the evening of Monday, Aug. 25, for the first-ever Community Welcome Walk, which will welcome students living in neighborhoods adjacent to campus back for the fall semester. The welcome will include helpful information on establishing and increasing good neighbor relationships between all residents (both students and long-term Greeley residents) and an invitation to enjoy all that UNC and Greeley have to offer throughout the academic year.
Volunteers are needed to help canvas UNC neighborhoods and distribute information and goodwill. If you're interested in helping out, register here.
Materials, training and neighborhood assignments will be provided during a light dinner prior to the walk.
Did you have a unique summer experience you'd be willing to share with the rest of the campus and media? Did you backpack across Europe? Serve an internship on Capitol Hill? Build a raft and float down the Mississippi River? (Some UNC students did just that a few years ago!) Email a description of what you did in 200 words or less and the most interesting ones will be included in a future Around Campus and be considered for sharing with media.
