UNC Student Art Sale This Week

UNC's student art clubs will showcase and sell their art work from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. every day this week in the University Center's lower level. All items are hand-made and make great gifts and keepsakes. Stop by to check out the talent and hard work.

GLBTA Resource Office to Host Lavender Graduation May 4

The GLBTA Resource Office will host Lavender Graduation from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, May 4, in the University Center's Columbine B room. Graduates who identify with the GLBTA community will be recognized, as will outstanding individuals who support the GLBTA community.

A reception and dessert will follow, and everyone is welcome to attend. To register as a graduating, identifying student or to nominate an individual on campus, visit the GLBTA Resource Office website.

SOLAR Award Recipients Announced

The recipients of the Student Senate's annual Student Organization, Leadership and Advisor Recognition awards, which honor the contributions of students, student organizations, advisors, and faculty members to the university community through ethical decision-making, a commitment to service, constructive ambition and excellence in the advancement of both academic knowledge and human understanding, were:

  • Faculty Members: Derek Headley, Audiology and Speech Language; Richard Jurin, Biological Sciences
  • Graduate Student: Ryan Middagh, Graduate Student Council
  • Undergraduate Student: Kelley Robinson, Marketing Club
  • Advisor: Kirk Leichliter, Student LEAF
  • Organization: Higher Education and Student Affairs Leadership Organization
  • Event: 9News Health Fair, Student Nurses Association

The awards are given in conjunction with Academic Excellence Week.

Alumni Association to Host Senior Week April 28-May 2

The University of Northern Colorado's Alumni Association has partnered with offices across UNC's campus to offer a variety of events to graduating seniors that focus on life after graduation. Space is limited for many of these events, so be sure to sign up here to save a spot.

Creating a Work/Life Balance

Join staff members from UNC's Counseling Center at 6 p.m. in the University Center's Aspen Suites to learn about maintaining a successful work and life balance.

Life After Sports

Former UNC Men's Basketball star Devon Beitzel (BS-11) will provide insight to graduating athletes about transitioning from the world of Division 1 or club sports from 7:30-8:30 p.m. in Butler-Hancock Champion's room.

Fitness for Life

Prepare for a healthy lifestyle after graduation with a tabata class that helps maximize speed, agility and power at 6 p.m. in the Campus Recreation Center.

Wednesday, April 30

Success Looks Like Me Panel and Networking

Engage with a panel of young alumni from 6-8 p.m. in the University Center's Columbine B. This session allows seniors to ask questions and learn from the panel's challenges and experiences.

Thursday, May 1

Why Insurance?

Gain valuable insight on insurance options and find out about those that best meet your needs at 5 p.m. in the UC Columbine B. UNC graduates receive special discounts from GEICO.

Personal Finance 101

Maintaining a budget can be difficult. Learn from Cornerstone Financial Strategies owner Ken Dyer (BS-96) as he shares how to budget effectively and prepare for your future. The event runs from 6-7 p.m. in the University Center's Aspen Suites.

Home Ownership and Leasing

Do you want to own your own home? Head over to the UC Columbine B at 7 p.m. to learn how to buy your own home, how to lease and all the paperwork that goes along with it.

Senior BBQ

Celebrate your amazing accomplishment with free food, drinks, games and live music from 4-6 p.m. at the Turner Green.

UNC Athletic Training Society to Host Cinco de Mayo 5K

UNC's Athletic Training Society will host the Cinco de Mayo fundraiser 5K at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at Nottingham Field. Registration is $10 before the race; $15 on race day. Proceeds will benefit the Athletic Training Society and provide a donation to sponsor additional Girls on the Run members. For more information about the race, email Kathryn Olson.

2014 Inspiring Women Awards Announced

The Women's Resource Center and Stryker Institute for Leadership Development recently hosted their annual Women's Recognition Reception and announced the 2014 Inspiring Women Awards nominees and recipients. The recipients in each award category were:

  • Staff Award - Megan Bissell, Housing and Residential Education
  • Student Award - Kelly Walker, Higher Education and Student Affairs Leadership
  • Faculty Award - Sandra Harmon, Sociology

The staff of the WRC thank all the women nominated this year for their inspirational leadership and tireless efforts to our students and the campus community.
