Reminder: Annual Scholarship Fair Feb. 13

Join the Office of Financial Aid for its annual UNC Scholarship Fair 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 13, in the University Center ballrooms. Register to win one of two $1,000 scholarships for 2013-14 and learn about scholarship opportunities, deadlines, the UNC Universal Scholarship application. Free refreshments will be available.

Don't forget to fill out the UNC Universal Scholarship Application through your Ursa account so you'll be able to automatically see what scholarships you will be considered for.

Remember the important deadlines: March 1 for most undergraduate scholarships, June 15 for most transfer scholarships and June1-August 1 is the deadline period for most graduate scholarships.

Also, don't forget that the FAFSA must be submitted every year (priority deadline is March 1) in order for you to be considered for financial aid, including many scholarships.

Last Chance to Attend RA Information Session and Apply for 2013-14 Position

Students confident in leadership positions and who are passionate about UNC are encouraged to apply to become a resident assistant for the 2013-14 academic year. The last mandatory information session about the position and how to apply is on Monday, Jan. 28 from 5-6 p.m. in Spruce C in the University Center. It also lets students become familiar with the Housing and Residential Education department as a whole.

Course Drop Deadline Monday, Jan. 28

Thinking about dropping a class this semester? Be sure to do so by Monday, Jan. 28... no changes after Monday can be made! Instructions for dropping courses in Ursa are on the Registrar's website.

Complete FAFSA with Professional Help on College Goal Sunday

Working through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is no easy task, but well worth your time. Students and parents can receive professional help to complete the application from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb.10, in the computer lab on the lower level of the UC.

If you plan to pay tuition through grants, scholarships, work study, and/or student loans, attendance is encouraged. Both students and parents should have their 2012 federal tax returns available, however taxes from 2011 or 2012 W2s are good alternatives.

The priority date for the 2013-14 FAFSA is March 1. Be sure to take advantage of this opportunity to apply for any and all financial aid you may qualify for.

Panhellenic Networking Night

Get to know each of UNC's five sororities and their members from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31, in the UC ballrooms at Panhellenic Networking Night. For any women who were unable to attend the "Meet the Greeks" event, this is an awesome opportunity to get involved in Greek Life as some chapters will be looking for new members.

Applications to Speak at Commencement Due Wednesday, Feb. 20

Graduating from college is a big accomplishment, preceded by seemingly impossible courses, at least a few life changes, unforgettable memories and new friends. With the "Real World" in sight, what would you want to share with your classmates at commencement? If you are graduating in May, have a 2.8+ GPA and are involved in UNC campus life, apply today! More info and application forms are available on the Dean of Students website.

Applications are due no later than Wednesday, Feb. 20.

Full-Time Summer Work Study Application Now Available

The FTSWS application is now available online for students who are interested in receiving work study during summer semester. Students may work full-time (32-40 hours per week) and are not required to take summer classes. Eligibility criteria include:

  • Student must be enrolled full-time during the 2013 fall semester in a degree-granting program
  • Student must have attended UNC during the 2013 spring semester and maintained satisfactory academic progress
  • A 2013-14 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) must be completed by the March 1 priority deadline

Summer earnings will be counted as a financial aid resource for 2013-14 and may affect 2013-14 financial aid awards. Students should complete and sign the FTSWS Application and Agreement by March 1 for consideration; no exceptions.
