Sociology Faculty Member Receives UNC's 2013 Social Science Engaged Research Award

Kyle Anne Nelson, assistant professor of Sociology, has received the 2013 Social Science Engaged Research Award, given annually by UNC's Office of Research to a faculty member who's demonstrated excellence in research and scholarly activity related to civic engagement projects and programs.

Nelson has worked with numerous colleagues on campus and in the community in service, mentorship of students, and scholarship related to dropout prevention, support for refugees, and other critical concerns facing the community.

The recipient of the award, who is selected by committee of humanities and social sciences faculty members, receives $1,000.

The award is supported by an endowment by Emeritus Professor of Anthropology Robert Brunswig and Rebecca Brunswig.
