Exhibit at Michener Coincides with Community and Civic Engagement Committee's Listening Tour

As part of UNC's investment in and movement toward becoming an increasingly engaged campus, Michener Library will showcase books and scholarly materials related to community and service-based learning, as well as the growing body of work now referred to as the "Scholarship of Engagement."

The term is used by the Clearing House and National Review Board for the Scholarship of Engagement because it "captures scholarship in the areas of teaching, research, and/or service. It engages faculty in academically relevant work that simultaneously meets campus mission and goals as well as community needs. In essence, it is a scholarly agenda that integrates community issues. In this definition community is broadly defined to include audiences external to the campus that are part of a collaborative process to contribute to the public good."

The exhibit includes an interactive comment board for community feedback and coincides with the Community and Civic Engagement listening tour which will be held across campus during the week of Nov. 26. For more information or to contribute to the development of a strategic community and civic engagement plan that will become part of UNC's overall planning process, share your ideas at one of several drop-in sessions (see below) or submit them using the anonymous submission form.

Community and civic engagement is one of the nine elements being developed as part of UNC's overall planning process. A growing body of research and practice shows that teaching, research and service-learning activities engaged in local or global communities are high-impact practices.
