Semana de los Muertos Celebration Begins Today

Celebrate Semana de los Muertos (Week of the Dead) with the Cesar Chavez Cultural Center and students and faculty from the Hispanic Studies program during events for the Hispanic holiday that remembers and honors the lives of friends and family that have passed away.

The week's schedule:

Monday - Oct. 29
Luncheon @ 11:00-12:30 p.m.
Location: Cesar Chavez Cultural Center
Treat yourself to a plate or two of Mexican food while learning more about Latino culture.

Arts and Crafts @ 5 p.m.
Location: Cesar Chavez Cultural Center
Fulfill the artist inside you with different activities like paper flowers,
bracelets and necklaces, coloring, pipe cleaner spiders and skeletons.

Tuesday - Oct. 30
MAS Students Altars @ 5 p.m.

Location: University Center
The day of the Dead is a Mexican celebration of life. Following the alter showing, which focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for friends and family members who have died, students can enjoy a free dinner.

Wednesday - Oct. 31
Haunted House @ 5-8 p.m.

Location: Cesar Chavez Cultural Center
If you like a good fright and being scared for FREE, this is your lucky day. Come enjoy delicious pastries and hot drinks; pumpkin carving, face painting, and coloring. Come prepared to be scared!

Thursday - Nov. 1
"Mayan Renaissance" @ 6:30 p.m.

Location: Gunter Auditorium, Rm. 1720
Explore the amazing Mayan Culture on film and learn something new about this Pre-Columbian civilization.

Friday - Nov. 2
Costume Party @ 5-6:30 p.m.

Location: Cesar Chavez Cultural Center
Show off your costumes and work it down the runway. The best costumes will receive a prize at the end of the night.
