Health Care Reform Notification

Prior to Oct. 1, all employees will be receiving an email from the university to comply with the employee notification requirement of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, also known as Healthcare Reform. The notice will provide basic information regarding UNC, the insurance we offer, and the Healthcare Marketplace insurance in general. Included in the notification will be a contact name and number if you have any questions. Please note that no action is required by an employee to continue your current insurance plan election.

Curriculum Refresher Workshop This Week

The Office of the Registrar will host a Curriculum Refresher Workshop later this month for faculty and staff, who can attend either one of two duplicate sessions. Topics will include an overview of the curriculum process and curriculum rules.

The PowerPoint presentation and any handouts from the workshop will be available on the registrar's curriculum website for those who are unable to attend the workshop.

Engaged Scholarship Symposium Proposals Due Oct. 15

The Community Engaged Scholars Symposium seeks proposals for presentations during the seventh annual symposium on Nov. 12 in the University Center ballrooms. Proposals are due by Friday, Oct. 15.

Individuals, groups and organizations from the UNC and Weld County communities involved with regional or global community-based research, partnerships and other activities that connect academic knowledge to practice are encouraged to participate.

Poster presentations, demonstration projects, round table discussions and other formats can be used to showcase projects and initiatives, facilitate networking among participants and recognize excellence in the symposium's interactive setting.

An application form and additional information about the symposium is available on the event website.

Engaged Scholarship Awards
Nominations for the Engaged Scholarship Awards, which will be presented during the symposium, also are sought.

The Community Engaged Scholarship Symposium is sponsored by UNC's Center for Honors, Scholars and Leadership.

$25 Flu Shot Clinic Sept. 26

UNC's Student Health Center will host a $25 flu shot clinic for UNC employees from 3-5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, in Lawrenson Hall. Only cash or check payment is accepted. A receipt will be provided for reimbursement purposes.

This is not the free flu shot clinic being offered for classified employees and dependents covered by one of the state of Colorado's health plans. See below for information about that clinic.

Other UNC Flu Shot Clinics

Checks or cash in the amount of $25 are accepted at the health center's clinics, which are also open to employees' dependents. A receipt is provided for reimbursement purposes. The schedule is:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 15 - 3-5 p.m., Wiebking Hall

Free flu shots are available at these clinics for UNC students who present a current UNC ID Card.

State-Sponsored Free Flu Shot Clinic for Classified Staff

Free flu shots will be available for UNC classified staff and their dependents covered under either of the medical plans offered through UNC on Tuesday, Oct. 8, in Aspen B in the University Center. Classified staff must show their medical ID cards from Kaiser Permanente or United Health Care.

The free shots were arranged for by the Colorado Department of Human Resources.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: If a classified employee doesn't attend the free flu shot clinic on Oct. 8, where else can they go to still get a free flu shot without having to do the paperwork for the reimbursement?
A: They can go to a doctor's office or a covered pharmacy for their shots.

Q: If a classified employee is not on UNC insurance, can they still get the free flu shot?
A: No, it's only for classified employees on the United Healthcare or Kaiser Permanente plan.

Q: Can the spouse of a classified employee and the employee both get free flu shots?
A: If the spouse is a covered dependent, they can. Otherwise, no.

Q: Will any other vaccines be available that day, e.g., pneumonia?
A: No.
