Interdisciplinary Studies Elementary Teaching Program Changes Announced

The Interdisciplinary Studies Elementary Teaching (ISET) program, which was formerly part of the University College, is now part of the School of Teacher Education in the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences. Phone numbers and location (McKee 227) are unchanged.

The Social Science program, previously co-located with ISET, will be housed in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. The program's administrative office is located in Candelaria Hall 1265 and the new phone number is 351-4104.

Work Study Student Employment Procedures

As soon as a work study student is hired, have them go to the Student Employment desk in the Financial Aid office in Carter Hall with the necessary identification to complete his or her I-9 paperwork. The earliest that students can pick up their Work Study Work Authorization form is Friday, Aug. 9. The first day they can start working for fall semester is Friday, Aug. 16.

Longtime UNC Professor Robert Longwell Passes Away

Robert Longwell, a professor of English and Speech at UNC and its Laboratory School from 1962-1989 passed away July 17 in Greeley. He was awarded the rank of Professor Emeritus of Communication in 1986. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at the Northern Colorado Crematory, 700 8th St., Greeley. His obituary is available on the Greeley Tribune website.

International Piano Academy at UNC to Include Free Performances

The University of Northern Colorado's School of Music will host the third annual Colorado International Piano Academy July 20-Aug. 3, featuring world-renowned pianists and piano teachers from top music schools in the U.S., Asia and Europe presenting concerts, master classes and lectures.

Public performances by academy guest artists and faculty include:

  • Wednesday, July 24 - Faculty Joint Concert: "Homage to Rachmaninoff" featuring Changxin Guan, professor of piano at the China Conservatory of Music in Beijing; Stephen Pierce, assistant professor piano at UNC; Lei Weng, professor of piano at UNC and organizer of the academy; and guest performer Xiaoxue Hu.
  • Sunday, July 28 - Guest Artist Concert: Lorenzo Di Bella, winner of the 2005 Horowitz International Piano Competition and numerous other international competitions.
  • Thursday, Aug. 1 - Guest Artist Concert: Meng-Chieh Liu, winner of the Stravinsky, Asia Pacific Piano and Mieczyslaw Munz competitions, and a member of the faculty at Roosevelt University and the Curtis Institute of Music.

All three concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Milne Auditorium in Kepner Hall, intersection of 8th Avenue and 17 Street.

Adult tickets are $10 for each concert. A pass for all three is available for $20. Non-UNC students, anyone under 18 and those over 60 pay $5 per concert. Tickets for UNC students and employees with current UNC identification are free. Tickets include a post-concert reception.

Tickets are available through the UNC Ticket Office, 351-4849 or www.unco.edu/tickets, or at the concert, space permitting.

The academy also includes two free concerts by students from notable music programs such as Juilliard, Oberlin College, the University of Colorado, UNC and eight Asian conservatories and universities.

Open Forum for Assistant Director of Housing Services Candidate

Housing and Residential Education invites the campus community to attend an open forum for Jediah Cummins, a candidate for the position of assistant director of Housing Services, from 11-11:45 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, in the Gunter Conference Room. Copies of the candidate's resume will be available at the forum.

Parking Lot Closures: July 29-30

L-Lot: will be closed intermittently Monday July 29, and Tuesday, July 30, while Parking Services re-stripes it. Drivers should park in Y-Lot as an alternative. Please contact Parking Services at 970-351-1971 if you have any questions.
