Veteran Art Sale and Expo to be Held at UNC

An art sale and expo at the University of Northern Colorado June 30-July 3 will feature paintings, sculptures and handmade items including jewelry created by veterans and military-connected artists who include veterans' family members.

The display and sale will run from noon to 5 p.m. June 30 and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 1 through July 3 at UNC's Office of Veterans Services in Roudebush Cottage, west of the intersection of 8th Avenue and 18th Street.

Submissions from veterans and military connected artists are still being accepted. To be considered, work must be submitted by June 14. Contact the Office of Veterans Services at (970) 351-1403 for details.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale will benefit Student Veterans of America to help fund campus initiatives aimed at increasing student involvement.

"It gives artists a springboard and showcases what veterans can do," said Thomas Gardiner, a military veteran and UNC student who is organizing the event and whose paintings and photography will be a part of the gallery.

Gardiner, who works with the nonprofit art organization "Arts of Valor," also said engaging in the artwork is "therapeutic" and provides an outlet for expression.
