UNC Sustainability Council Seeks Members

If you'd like to help UNC meet its goals for sustainability - from energy conservation, recycling and eco-efficient landscaping, to student activities and coursework - consider adding your expertise and energy to the UNC Sustainability Council or one of its subcommittees. Membership is open to faculty, staff and students.

The council and its subcommittees - Buildings/Equipment/Operations, Communications, Student and Community Engagement, and Academics and Curriculum - identify and create opportunities to improve existing sustainability efforts, adopt new sustainable practices and communicate those opportunities to the campus community.

Each group meets once a month and members typically spend additional time doing project work such as drafting policies/procedures, designing brochures or researching potential new projects.

Call for Applications: 2013-14 Assessment Leadership Instittute

The Assessment Office invites applications for the 2013-14 Assessment Leadership Institute, a faculty development program on student learning outcomes assessment. The deadline for applications is May 15. Departments selected for participation will receive a $2,500 grant. Information about how to apply is available in the application brochure.

Call for Applications: Teaching Academy for Online Learning

Applications are now being accepted for the Teaching Academy for Online Learning - an opportunity to learn how to plan and develop an online course using Quality Matters standards. The academy will be held online and also includes classroom sessions June 7, 14 and 21 at UNC's Loveland Center at Centerra. Stipends are awarded for successful completion of the academy. "Music Online: Listening" Now Available from University Libraries

University Libraries now subscribes to "Music Online: Listening," a database that provides access to nearly 1 million tracks of recorded music in all genres.

The database can be accessed from the University Libraries database page or from Music Research Resources on the Skinner Music Library home page.

The collections available in the database are:

  • "American Song"
  • "Classical Music Library"
  • "Contemporary World Music"
  • "Jazz Music Library"
  • "Smithsonian Global Sounds for Libraries"

Subjects Sought for Social Skills Intervention Research

Kim Murza, a faculty member in the Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology department, is recruiting participants for her social language intervention research. If you know of an adult with high-functioning autism spectrum disorder, including Asperger syndrome, please encourage them to contact Murza.at 970-351-1084 or kim.murza@unco.edu.

All participants will receive a free evaluation and report and will be eligible to receive Amazon gift cards. Those participants who are randomly assigned to the treatment group will also receive an evidence-based social language treatment.

The treatment program is designed to help individuals improve their social ability. Previous participants have reported improved relationships and ability to secure and maintain employment.

Attention Faculty Teaching Summer Courses: Blackboard Upgrade May 18-19

Blackboard will be unavailable from 4:30 a.m. Saturday, May 18, until approximately 10 p.m. Sunday, May 19, while an upgrade correcting previously identified issues and adding some new features is applied to all courses and content in the system. If you're teaching a summer course, please try to have your course shell ready before May 18.

The upgrade includes an updated, more modern interface and easier navigation between courses.
