Reminder: Student Employee of the Year Recognition Event April 10

The organizers of the Student Employee of the Year Awards remind everyone to help celebrate student employees' contributions to UNC by attending the annual SEOTY awards event from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, in the University Center ballrooms and finding creative ways to show your appreciation to your student employees during National Student Employee Appreciation Week April 8-12.

The 2013 SEOTY winner and the four runners-up will be announced at the April 10 event and every student nominated will receive a prize.

The SEOTY team thanks all who submitted one of the 46 nominations received.

Suggestions for creative ways to show your appreciation to your student employees include a fun treasure hunt, small goodie bags or Bear bucks gift cards.

Street and Parking Lot Closure Tonight, Tomorrow

The 19th Street entrance to Central Campus and Lot Z South will be closed from 10 p.m. tonight, March 12, until approximately 10:30 a.m. tomorrow, March 13. Please use the 8th Avenue entrance to access the lots by Gray/Guggenheim/Gunter and the Arts Annex.

Retirement Reception for Deb Thompson

Housing and Residential Education invites the campus community to join them for a cake and punch retirement reception honoring Deb Thompson from 1-2:30 p.m. Friday, March 22, in the Peggy Haynes room in Tobey-Kendel Hall.

RSVPs for Staff Recognition Banquet Due March 15

UNC's 42nd annual Staff Recognition Banquet and Silent Auction will be from 5:30-8 p.m. Monday, March 25, in the University Center ballrooms. RSVPs are required by Friday, March 15. All UNC employees receive a free meal at the event, and guests may purchase a meal at cost. Meal choices and guests' costs are:

  • Prime Rib ($22)
  • Chicken Breast Monterey ($17)
  • Vegetarian Risotto ($13)

The theme of this year's event is "Under the Gypsy Moon."

Grant Writing Workshop for Humanities, Social Sciences, Arts, Education

The Office of Sponsored Programs will host a grant writing workshop Thursday, April 4, designed to help faculty and staff increase the competitiveness of their proposals for projects in the humanities, social sciences, arts and education. The workshop will run from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. in the Columbine suites of the University Center. Seating is limited and pre-registration is required.

Participants should have some understanding of grant seeking, but want to acquire the skills to develop successful, consistently funded proposals.

"Grant Writing without Grief for the Humanities and Social Sciences, Arts and Education" will be presented by Lynn Miner of Miner and Associates, who will cover topics such as creating successful proposal components, persuasive proposal narratives, resubmitting previously declined proposals, and building a successful grant writing team. Registration is required by emailing Arlene Hansen that you wish to attend the Grant Writing without Grief Workshop and that you will attend for the full day.
