A short story written by UNC senior Tamara Faour will be published in the 2018 edition of the honors journal Scribendi. The publication selected her story, "Cordial Cherries," out of 480 submissions of short stories, poetry, visual art, photographs and foreign language pieces, from honors students across the western United States. She will be recognized for her work at the Western Regional Honors Council Conference on April 14. The UNC Honors student majors in English. Here's a synopsis of the story:

Spoiled for her hometown life and eager to achieve independence and importance, Helen sets of for the city of Big Caper in an ornamental cherry hat that she plans to get rid of as soon as possible. Little does she know that through that very hat, and a series of other cordial cherries, she will find the love and fulfillment she was lacking in the unlikeliest place: a boy whose love she rejected and her own hometown.
