Trustees Committee to Meet Feb. 6

The finance and audit committee of UNC's Board of Trustees will meet from 9 a.m.-noon Wednesday, Feb. 6, in the fourth-floor boardroom of Carter Hall.

Discussion will include a state update from UNC President Kay Norton; an overview of UNC Foundation investments; a financial report from the second quarter of FY13; an FY14 pricing discussion; FY12 financial and compliance audit and athletic report; and an internal audit update.

No action will be taken.

The remaining finance and audit committee meeting schedule (tentative) for 2012-13 is May 15.

UNC to Host Lunar New Year Celebration Feb. 11

The University of Northern Colorado will celebrate the lunar calendar's Year of the Snake with the sixth annual Lunar New Year Celebration 5-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, in the University Center ballrooms, intersection of 10th Avenue and 20th Street.

The celebration will include Authentic Asian cuisine, traditional and modern Chinese musical and dance performances by UNC students, trivia contests and language lessons. Tickets for the celebration, which is open to the public, are $5 for UNC students and $15 for all others. Children 5 and younger are admitted free of charge, but still need a ticket.

Tickets are available at the UNC Ticket Office in the University Center, by calling 351-4849 or at the Ticket Office website at www.unco.edu/tickets.

The celebration will also include a free children's carnival from 3-5:30 p.m. in the Fireside Lounge in the University Center. Interactive activities at the family-oriented event will include traditional Chinese paper cutting, brush painting and calligraphy, dragon mask-making, origami, games, karaoke, face painting, and Asian-themed student arts and gift stores.

Free parking is available after 5 p.m. in lots adjacent to the University Center. Before 5 p.m., parking in the lots is paid. Drivers can purchase permits from an automated vending machine at parking lot entrances.

The Lunar New Year is an integral part of Asian cultures, bringing together family and friends to celebrate the most important holiday of the lunar calendar.

The celebration is hosted by the Chinese Culture Club, Japanese Language Club and Japanese Culture and Anime Club, and sponsored by Asian/Pacific American Student Services, the University Center and the Office of Enrollment Management and Student Access.

Annual Scholarship Fair Feb. 13

The Office of Financial Aid will host its annual UNC Scholarship Fair 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, in the University Center ballrooms. Faculty and staff are asked to remind student employees and advisees about this opportunity to learn about scholarship opportunities and application deadlines.

Students can register for a drawing to win one of two $1,000 scholarships for the 2013-14 academic year. Free refreshments will be served.

First Wednesday Book Sale

Friends of UNC Libraries will host another First Wednesday Book Sale from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, in Michener Library. There'll be a wide variety of books and music, and a special focus table featuring health and sports books. Proceeds benefit projects and events of University Libraries.
