'I'm First' Buttons Available to Campus Community

The Office of Admissions is again distributing "I'm First!" buttons to UNC faculty and staff who identify as first-generation college students. When you wear the button during campus visit days, prospective students will see examples of other successful first-generation students. If you identify as a first-generation college student and want to show your support to current and future first-generation UNC students, use this Qualtrics order form. Upcoming Destination UNC and Discover UNC event days include Monday, Feb. 19, Friday, March 23; Friday, March 30; Friday, April 20; and Friday, July 13. Buttons also will be given to incoming students and visitors who identify as first-generation.

Call for Proposals: FRPB New Project Program

The Faculty Research and Publications Board invites faculty members who hold at least a .50 FTE appointment to submit proposals to the New Project Program, with a deadline of 5 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 21. The New Projects Grant Program provides seed money for individual or group projects that are at the initial stages of a research or creative program. Ongoing work will not be considered for NPP funding. Preference will be given to initial or pilot work intended to result in external funding to support continuation and expansion of the research. Each NPP grant will be limited to a maximum award of $5,000. Proposal guidelines and forms are available on the Office of Research website. For more information, contact your FRPB representative.

GA/TA Office Space Committee

The Graduate Student Association is forming a committee to learn more about graduate assistant and teaching assistant office space on campus. If your program/office would like to be considered for additional or alternative GA/TA office space, please select a student representative from your program to serve on this committee. Representative members will be responsible for collecting information from their respective program/office areas, reporting back to the committee, and lobbying for additional/alternative GA/TA office space. To serve on this committee, please contact committee chair Brandy Tackett at brandy.tackett@unco.edu.

Tax Help for International Students

The Center for International Education is providing tax assistance for all international students and scholars. For most, this will be free of charge. If you have international employees, please feel free to direct them to the website for more information. All international students and scholars who were in the United States during the 2017 calendar year must file taxes.
