UNC Voice Services Intermittent 5 a.m.-5 p.m. Dec. 16, PD Has Alternate Phone Number

Information Management & Technology will perform a major upgrade to the university's voice communications system from 5 a.m.-noon Saturday, Dec. 16, during which all voice communications, including phone service, will be intermittent on the Greeley campus and the Lowry and Centerra centers.

If you need to reach the UNC Police Department during one of the intermittent outages, call the department's alternate number, 970-353-2650, which is not part of UNC's phone system. If you have an emergency during one of the outages, use a cell phone to call 911 and your call will be directed to Weld County's emergency dispatch center, which will notify campus police. Also, be aware that the blue emergency poles on campus will not be operable during the maintenance.

During the maintenance, calls to UNC's main switchboard line (351-1890) will receive either a recording or a busy signal, depending on the status of the system at the time of the call.

If you have any questions or concerns prior to the maintenance, contact the Technical Support Center at 970-351-4357. The TSC will also experience intermittent phone service outages during the maintenance.

December Payday Is Dec. 29, a Scheduled Holiday

Payday in December is Friday, Dec. 29, which is a scheduled holiday for the university, and the Payroll Office will be closed.

If you currently don't have direct deposit, you'll need to have your banking information to the Payroll Office no later than Dec. 18 for your December pay to be deposited directly. If you will not have direct deposit set up and need your check prior to Tuesday, Jan. 2, contact the Payroll Office at 351-2700.

As a reminder, UNC's scheduled holiday pay policy is:

If a payday falls on a university-scheduled holiday which is not also a bank holiday, direct deposits will be processed for the normal payday. Paycheck pickup will be scheduled during a brief time period prior to the university holiday - contact the Payroll Office for schedule.

Please share this information with staff that doesn't have regular access to email.

Year-End Gift Handling: Save Postmarked Donation Envelopes

To ensure donors get credit for a gift in the 2017 tax year, please forward all gifts and the accompanying envelopes to the Foundation (Campus Box 20). The postmarked envelope is required by the IRS to give proper credit in the correct tax year for gifts via check. Because campus mail will be closed the last week of December, please begin forwarding envelopes immediately and continue into early January until all 2017 tax-year gifts are submitted. All checks received in January without an accompanying postmarked envelope, will be counted in January as 2018 tax-year gifts.

For credit card gifts, please direct all donors to the UNC Give Site at www.unco.edu/give/. For a credit card gift to count as a 2017 donation, the credit card must be charged no later than 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 31, and the website is the best utility for this purpose. Hand-written credit card numbers, regardless of postmarked date, will be counted on the day the card number is received and charged by the Foundation, which could be in 2018.

If there are any questions on end-of-year giving, further information will be available on www.unco.edu/give/.

Thank you for your assistance with year-end donations in support of UNC.

How to Find Out About University Closures, Late Openings

There's a variety of ways to find out if UNC is closed or opening late due to weather or for some other reason.

  • You can call the inclement weather line at 970-351-4100 or visit http://www.unco.edu and look in the "News" section for updates on the university's operating status. In the event of a severe overnight storm, the operating status of the university is available by 6:30 a.m.
  • Closures are also reported to area media outlets, including Denver TV stations.
  • Notifications of closures are sent to campus phones and computers through voice, e-mail and text messages and to subscribed cell phones through text and voice messages from UNC's Emergency Alert system.

To find out how to sign up your phone, visit http://www.unco.edu/alerts/signup.html.

If you receive an emergency alert saying the university is closed, calling the UNC Police Department to confirm the information is not necessary.

For information about campus snow removal, including a link to the detailed Snow Removal Plan, visit Landscaping and Grounds' website.

UNC Today Winter Break Schedule

UNC Today will be published during winter break only when there are campus announcements to share. You can use the form at www.unco.edu/submit to submit information for newsletter announcements and events for UNC's online calendar.

UNC events submitted will be included on the online calendar (after being reviewed), but not every event or news submission will be included as an e-newsletter announcement; priority will be given to events and news of broad general interest.

The submission form includes instructions and tips for completing it for both events and news announcements.

For more information, contact Gary Dutmers, 970-351-1940.
