McNair Scholars Recognized for Research

The McNair Scholars Program at the University of Northern Colorado announced the winners of its 2012 Research Competition at the annual McNair Awards Banquet earlier this month. The winners, who were awarded scholarships for the upcoming spring semester. were:

First Place

Seth Morones: $1,000 Scholarship
Research: "Resource Relationship Characteristics of Homeless Youth Accessing Higher Education Opportunities"
Mentor: David Musick
Major: Sociology
Hometown: Boulder.

Second Place

Elia Martin: $600 Scholarship
Research: "Using Self-Determination Theory to Examine the Difference in Motivation of African American College Students with Other Ethnic Backgrounds"

Third Place

Andrea Rascon: $400 Scholarship
Research: "College Experiences: First-Generation Female Undergraduates at the University of Northern Colorado"

Mileage Reimbursement Rate to Increase Jan. 1

Effective Jan. 1, the new state of Colorado mileage reimbursement rate will be 51 cents per mile for an employee's use of their two-wheel-drive personal vehicle for university business.

This rate change is the result of the IRS mileage reimbursement rate increasing to 56.5 cents per mile effective Jan. 1 and CRS 24-9-104, which states that on and after Jan. 1, 2008, state officers and employees shall be allowed mileage reimbursement of 90 percent of the prevailing IRS rate per mile for each mile actually and necessarily traveled while on official state business and, when authorized to be utilized and necessary for official state business, 95 percent of the prevailing IRS rate per mile for four-wheel-drive vehicles (necessary because of road, terrain or adverse weather conditions) and 40 cents per nautical mile for privately owned aircraft.

UNC Concert Choir to Perform at Michener

The Friends of the UNC Libraries will sponsor a free holiday concert by the UNC Concert Choir at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, in Michener Library. Galen Darrough, professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities, will conduct.

Santa to Visit UC Dec. 5

The University Center will host a visit from Santa Claus from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5. Bring the kids by for a complimentary photo.
