Recent Six-Figure Gifts Will Support Scholarships for Student Veterans

In conjunction with Military Appreciation Week Nov. 13-18, UNC this week announced two six-figure gifts to support scholarships for student veterans. The gifts came from Bob and Bonnie Phelps, and the Vosmera Foundation.

The Bob and Bonnie Phelps CAP Trust recently established the Johnnie Cannon & Thomas Phelps Veterans Scholarship Endowment. The scholarship will be awarded to a student veteran who's a senior in good academic standing and studying within the College of Natural and Health Sciences, Monfort College of Business or in English (Secondary Education Teaching emphasis). A preference will also be given to students who attended a community college in northern Colorado, preferably Aims. The scholarship is named for Bob and Bonnie's fathers, each of whom served in the military.

Larry Vosmera, a native of Greeley and longtime northern Colorado businessman, planned to leave his legacy on the UNC campus by supporting two areas he was very passionate about: military veterans and the business community. Upon his death in April 2017, the Vosmera Foundation made a gift to UNC to fulfill Larry's vision. The newly created Larry R. Vosmera Scholarship Endowment will provide scholarship support for student veterans who are studying in the Monfort College of Business.

The specific amounts of the gifts are not being released at the request of the donors.
