Open Forums with Athletic Director Finalists Announced

The campus community and public are invited to open forums with finalists for the position of Director of Athletics. The forums, which begin at 11:45 a.m., will provide an opportunity to meet the finalists before their 12:15 p.m. presentations and Q&A sessions that follow. Lunch will be provided. Both forums will be held in the Panorama Room at the University Center. The schedule is as follows:

  • Thursday, Oct. 31: Darren Dunn, deputy athletics director at the University of Houston. With 23 years of experience in athletics, he has served at Northern Illinois, Tulsa and New Mexico. A four-year letterman in baseball at the University of Denver, he earned his bachelor's degree in political science/business administration in 1991. He also hold a master's degree in sports administration from New Mexico in 1992.
  • Friday, Nov. 1: Brandon Macneill, executive associate athletic director at Tulane University. Macneill previously served eight years in athletics administration at the University of Kansas, three years at Princeton, two years at Dartmouth, and in collegiate marketing for a group based at the University of Hawaii. Macneill earned a bachelor's degree from Tulane in 1993 and a master's from the University of Connecticut (where he also interned in athletics) in 1997.

Geography Program Selling Photography to Help UNC Disaster Relief Funds

A variety of photographs taken by Geography/GIS faculty are available for purchase with all proceeds benefiting UNC's Disaster Relief Funds for employees and students. The suggested donation for an unframed 8x10 print is $10 and $25-30 for 8x10 for a print with a frame handmade by Professor Charles Collins. Cash or checks made to the UNC Foundation will be accepted.

All proceeds will go to the UNC's Disaster Relief Funds. Sale ends Dec. 31.

UNC Trustees’ Committee to Meet Wednesday

The finance and audit committee of UNC's Board of Trustees will meet 9-11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, in the fourth-floor boardroom of Carter Hall, intersection of 9th Avenue and 17th Street.

Discussion will include a state update from UNC President Kay Norton, preliminary financial statements from 2012-13, a summary of university bonds, an overview of the financial report from the first quarter of 2013-14, and an internal audit update.

No action will be taken.

The remaining dates for finance and audit committee meetings for the 2013-14 academic year are: Feb. 12 and May 14.

It's Not Too Late to Enter Thursday's Chili Cook-Off

If you make an awesome chili, enter it in the ninth annual Colorado Combined Campaign Chili Cook-Off before 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, by emailing Lori Brachtenbach.The cook-off will be from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, in the University Center ballrooms.

Trophies will be awarded for the most unique, best green and best red chili.

During the cook-off, visit with local charities and members of the UNC community while you eat a variety of homemade chili and freshly-baked cinnamon rolls for $5.

Faculty Luncheon with Schulze Speaker Marc Bekoff

All UNC faculty are invited to attend a luncheon with renowned animal behaviorist and Schulze Speaker Series presenter Marc Bekoff from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, in Holmes Dining Hall. The luncheon is free but seating is limited so RSVP by Nov. 1 to Rosann Ross. Be sure to include your campus box number so a ticket for the luncheon can be mailed to you.

Bekoff will present "The Emotional and Moral Lives of Animals: Rewilding Our Hearts and Compassionate Conservation" at 7 p.m. Nov. 7 in the University Center ballrooms. More information about Bekoff is available here.

Introduction to R Workshop Today

The Research Consulting Lab at the department of Applied Statistics and Research Methods will host a workshop to teach R users from different departments how to use R from noon-1 p.m. today, Oct. 29, in McKee 537.

R - a free software for data management and statistical analysis - is installed on all the computers at the Research Consulting Lab and will be available to participants.
