Facilitator Applications for Catalyst Social Justice Retreat Due Oct. 28

Participant and facilitator applications are now being accepted for UNC's Catalyst Social Justice Retreat Jan. 17-19 in Estes Park. The retreat, which is free, brings together students, faculty and staff to discuss issues of inclusion and social injustice. The deadline for facilitator applications is 5 p.m. Oct. 28; the deadline to participate is 5 p.m. Nov. 6.

Faculty and staff are encouraged to apply as facilitators and/or participants.

Annual Business Ethics Day Features Prominent Speakers

The Monfort College of Business will host the seventh annual Ethics Day from 9 a.m.-2:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23 in Milne Auditorium (room 2050). The schedule of guest presenters is:

  • 9:05-9:55 a.m.: Frank Casey, one of the people that raised concerns about Bernie Madoff's business practices, will speak on lessons from the Madoff fraud.
  • 10:10-11 a.m.: Former UNC president and U.S. Senator Hank Brown will speak on principle-based ethics and discuss how Bill Daniels and Ken Monfort built successful businesses while operating ethically.
  • 11:15 a.m.-12:05 p.m.: Edward Smith, retired partner from KPMG, will speak about ethical dilemmas that students are likely to face in their professional careers.
  • 1:25-2:15 p.m.: William Brierly will discuss how CH2MHill uses ethics as a market differentiator. CH2MHill has been named an ethical company for several years by Ethisphere.

All presentations are free and open to the public. Ethics Day is a Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative.

Fourth Annual Women's Conference to be Nov. 14

The Women's Resource Center presents the Fourth Annual Women's Conference, titled "Feminism is for Everybody: Join a Movement to End Sexist Oppression," 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 14 at the University Center. Attendance is free for all members of the UNC community.

This is an opportunity for the UNC community to further explore current issues impacting women today and to identify avenues toward self-empowerment.

Registration for this event ends Oct. 24. Register at the Women's Resource Center website or print the registration form and bring it to the WRC located next to Cassidy Hall.

Professor to Host Demonstration of 3-D Learning Environment

UNC Professor of Visual Arts Anna Ursyn will host a demonstration of zSpace, a revolutionary, immersive, interactive 3-D environment for computing, creating, communication and entertainment, at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, in Guggenheim 106.
