NCAA to Visit Campus Oct. 16-18
A peer review team from the National Collegiate Athletic Association will visit
the University of Northern Colorado Oct. 16-18 as part of the comprehensive
athletics certification process required for Division I membership. The four-member
team, composed of experienced educational and athletics personnel from Division
I institutions, will review operating principles detailed in the university’s
self-study. The self-study, submitted May 15, addresses the main tenets
of NCAA certification: governance and commitment to rules compliance; academic
integrity; and equity and student welfare. More than 70 UNC faculty, staff,
students, student-athletes and alumni have been involved with the NCAA certification
process since it began in August 2005. A decision on UNC’s certification
status will be made public by the NCAA in spring 2007.
