Director of NASS
Hello my name is Solomon Little Owl. I am Director of the Native American
Student Services. I'm from the Crow Reservation in Montana .
I lived on the reservation until I graduated in 1991, from Hardin High School
in Hardin , Montana .Shortly after high school graduation,
I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served my enlistment. I am also
a UNC Alumnus. In December 2000, I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree with
an emphasis in economics. I became director of NASS shortly there after. As
director my goals are to provide a program that will aid in the recruitment,
retention, and graduation of Native American students, as well as providing the
materials to increase community knowledge of Native American issues in today's
society.

Administrative Assistant
Hello. My name is Pat Dlug and I am the Adm. Assistant at NASS. I joined the
staff in January of 2000, and I have enjoyed working in support of this great
group of people! During the time I've been here I've learned a great deal of the
Native American culture through the various programs our center presents. I
encourage everyone to attend our programs as the house shares its culture with you
through food, sports, and cultural presentations. I live in Johnstown (a
"growing metropolis" of 4800, and one traffic light, located southwest
of Greeley ) with my cat, "Sam." My son and daughter are grown, and each
has a 3-year-old child. I am enjoying the honor of being a grandma, having a
granddaughter and grandson both! I sincerely look forward to seeing you at the Kohl
house to take part in these wonderful events!

Diana
Hi! My name is Diana Alcala and this is my second year at UNC. I am a Cultural Anthropology major and this is my first year working at NASS. I look forward to learning about the Native American culture and experience the different traditions that are celebrated. Attending many NASS events last year, I decided to increase my involvement by joining the staff. This is a great place to meet new people, study and just hang out. I am very excited for the year!!

Joy
Hi, my name is Joy, I am a junior and this is my third year working at NASS. My major is music education with an emphasis in voice and piano. I am originally from Wyoming and graduated from Glenrock High School in 2005. I hope to eventually work in education administration. In my free time I enjoy the outdoors, reading and of course anything with music. Working at NASS has given me more opportunities to meet some wonderful people outside of the music field.

Loretta
I am from the Tohono O’odham Tribe of Sells, Arizona. I was raised in San Diego, California. My educational background includes earning a Bachelor of Social Work degree and Master of Arts in Student Affairs degree from the University of Northern Iowa. Currently, I am working on a doctoral degree in Higher Education Student Affairs and Leadership at the University of Northern Colorado. My professional skills include working with student organizations such as Hispanic/Latino Student Union and Native American Student Union. I worked as a student advisor with Student Support Services for one year, and was coordinator of McNair Scholars program for two years. Before I sought higher education, I worked for the federal government and for a prestigious law firm in Southern California. When I complete my doctoral program I plan to be a faculty.

David
My name is David Oxley, and I am from Boulder, CO. I am a senior at UNC, and am currently in the sport and exercise science (kinesiology) program. Some of my hobbies include; hiking, camping, fishing, artwork, and biking. I am also involved in the UNC outdoors adventure club (OAC). I came to UNC because I felt that this institution would offer better educational opportunities when compared to some of the other schools that I was considering. This is my second year as a NASS staff member. I became interested in NASS because of the student activities they offered, mainly the annual buffalo hunt which is held during the fall semester. Working as a staff member has been a very positive experience for me.

SARAH
Hello! My name is Sarah and I am in my fourth year here at UNC. My major is in English and my minor will be in Anthropology. Though I live off campus, I got lucky seeing as how I’m across from the UC and a few houses down from my home-away-from-home. Since I’ve joined NASS I’ve been exposed to new people, places and cultures which I have come to love. All of my now best friends I met through the Kohl house. I have never felt pressured to be anyone but myself. No matter who you are race, creed or age, you’ll feel loved. I was going through some really rough times in the first few years of my college career but through the kindness of my new family, I feel that I can do anything. I am better prepared to enter the world as a productive member of society and owe a great deal of my success to NASS.
