Monique:

MoniqueMoe (Monique) Wells, a junior and exercise science major at UNC, is one of few Native American collegiate varsity soccer players in the United States. She came to UNC from Mesa Community College, where she was ranked 20th in the nation in 2006 for her goals-against - average of 0.683. While playing goalie there, her team went to the National Junior College Athletic Association Championships (NJCAA) for the fourth consecutive season. Now on athletic scholarship at UNC, Moe continues to play. During the regular season, she practices two hours a day. When asked what she likes about being goalie, she responded, “ I get to drive in front of the ball...get kicked in the face...It’s fun.” She is inspired by her family, NASS director, Solomon LittleOwl, and her good friend Loretta Dominguez. She enjoys eating, drinking coffee, watching movies, and hanging out either on “her couch” at NASS, or at Loretta’s place. According to Loretta, “She lives at my place when she’s not at NASS… she loves my cooking and found out I can cook Navajo fry bread, so…” Both laughing, Moe replied, “Yeah, she feeds me.”
