Responsibilities and Activities of the Schulze Chair

Bell TowerThe Schulze Chair provides the successful candidate with a unique opportunity to explore connections between traditional academic and professional disciplines. When a professor is selected as The Schulze Chair, s/he spends a visiting year at University of Northern Colorado, and is expected to teach (one course per semester) in the Life of the Mind Program at University of Northern Colorado.

The Life of the Mind Program is an innovative program designed to make connections between traditional disciplines and create bridges between subjects. The Life of the Mind Program enriches the liberal arts core taken by all students at University of Northern Colorado. By studying great works from around the world in specially designed interdisciplinary courses, faculty and students investigate central questions that have concerned humanity through the ages as well as important emerging global issues. The Schulze Fund is also intended to stimulate the recipient’s research and to encourage the recipient to share their interdisciplinary expertise with faculty, and the community at large.
