University Archives: RG 5 THE FACULTY
S2     Faculty organization, responsibilities and rights
F2     Faculty Constitutions. 1964-

A draft copy of a constitution and bylaws begins this file.  One July 29, 1964, a proposed Constitution and Bylaws of the Colorado State College Faculty was published.  Its title notes that it was "approved by the Colorado State College Chapter of the American Association of University Professors. This was followed by a report of a Subcommittee for Drafting a Faculty Constitution and Senate Plan, dated April 21, 1965.

The first Constitution and Bylaws for the Colorado State College Faculty was adopted in May 1965.

Revisions were proposed in a document dated November 1966, and a revised Constitution was published in May 1967.  The next copy was titled "Edited August 1970" and a later copy "Edited January 1976".

In May 1976, a Constitutional Revision Committee proposed amendments to the existing Constitution, and these were distributed to the faculty.  The new amended Constitution was dated May 1977.  Another copy was distributed in July 1978.

No further material is available in the Archives until that entitled "Draft", apparently made available in June1982.  Following this draft, considerable effort was made to revise the Constitution.  A schedule of hearings for November and December 1982 appears, having been sent to the entire faculty, and a revised Constitution was sent to the faculty on March 7, 1983.  A second reading copy was distributed to the Senate on March 28, and a referendum copy sent to all voting faculty on April 21, 1983.

The most recent Constitution was approved by the faculty in the referendum, as certified by the Chair of the Senate on May 3, 1983, and approved by the President on June 22, 1983.
