October 5:

Centennial Talk
"James Michener's Fictional Geography of Colorado" by John Dietz, and "James A. Michener and Family History" by Richard Gibboney.
9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Michener and the Craft of Writing
"The Old Master and the Young Turks" by James Magnuson, Director of the Michener Center for Writers at the University of Texas, Austin.
"Becoming an Author: Pathways and Intersections" by Marilyn Severson, author of James A. Michener: A Critical Companion.
"Reminiscences with Michener" by Owen Laster, Executive V.P., William Morris Agency and Michener's former Literary Agent. 1:30 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.

Opening of the James A. Michener Exhibit
Speakers : Dr. Gary Pitkin, Dean of the Libraries, University of Northern Colorado; Kay Norton, President of the University of Northern Colorado; and Ken McConnellogue, Executive Director of Institutional Relations, University of Colorado, Denver.
4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

October 6:

Centennial Bus Tour
Tour of Greeley and the surrounding area including Pawnee Buttes and Keota. The tour leaves from the Michener Library. Cost is $20.00 ($10.00 for students) and includes a Box Lunch.

9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Closing Dinner
The closing dinner will be held in the University Center, Panorama Room. The cost of the dinner is $30.00 per person.
Stephen May, author of Michener: A Writer's Journey, will discuss Michener in his presentation "An Epic Life" and Kenneth Womble, assistant professor of Theatre Arts and Drama at the University of Northern Colorado, will discuss "Michener from Biography to Documentary" and preview a short segment of his documentary film on James A. Michener.

6:30 p.m. Dinner

Robert Vavra Presents
James Albert Michener Photographic Collection
January 10 - February 14, 2007. Reception: Friday February 2, 4-6 p.m.

Renowned photographer Robert Vavra (Equus, Horses of the Sun) met Michener through work on Iberia. Their mutual admiration for Spain became the foundation for a friendship that lasted the rest of Michener's life. The Robert Vavra Collection exhibit showcases letters and photographs that chronicle their thirty-year friendship and collaboration.

The opening on February 2 will include the unveiling of Vavra's book, Michener's the Name, a photographic history published by the University Press of Colorado.
