Mission Statement |
The mission of the Center for Language Arts Education is to support, promote, and develop language arts education at the University, in Pre-K-12 schools in the State of Colorado, and throughout the region and country.
The Center for Language Arts Education is housed within the University of Northern Colorado's College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and is sponsored by the English, Foreign Languages, Hispanic Studies, and Communication programs. It is collaborative and multidisciplinary.
The Center for Language Arts Education has five main goals to be achieved through teaching, research, service and outreach:
The Administration of the Center is the responsibility of the Director and the Advisory Board. The Director reports directly to the Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, is a full-time and tenured faculty member with an appointment in one of the sponsoring programs, and is appointed to a three-year, renewable term.
The Advisory Board consists of a faculty representative from each of the sponsoring programs, representatives of state and local interests and funding agencies, and language arts leaders. The Advisory Board advises the Director on policy decisions, approves the budget and annual report, provides liaison with the sponsoring programs, and assists with the administration of the Center. The Director casts the deciding vote in the case of a tie. The Advisory Board meets a minimum of twice a year.
The Center for Language Arts Education is housed in McKee 318. An administrative assistant is shared with the William E. Hewitt Institute for History and Social Science Education. A part-time lecturer assigned to the Center works with grants and center-related activities.
