Dale Edwards has seven years professional radio news experience, and three years on non-commercial television experience, including producing and hosting a local public affairs interview program. He plans to use his training to develop and grow the broadcast production program on campus. His research has been published in Communication Law & Policy and BEA Feedback. Edwards serves as adviser for UNC's chapter of the National Broadcasting Society. He also initiated Bear News, JMC's student-run television newscast.
Bear News is produced under the supervision of the Journalism and Mass Communications program. Under the direction of Dr. Edwards, students report, write, tape, and edit their own stories. The show’s focus is the campus, but reporters also cover city, state, and national events that affect the campus community. Meteorology students prepare and present the show’s weather segment. A student producer assembles the show rundown. A student crew operates all of the studio equipment in our three-camera digital studio, and student anchors present news, weather, and sports. Bear News is cablecast on Comcast Channel 98 in Greeley and surrounding communities, reaching a potential audience of more than 50,000 viewers. |
