Welcome to 410 Forum, a site created by and for students in UNC’s Advanced News and Feature Writing class. This site gives journalism students in the capstone news-editorial course the opportunity to publish their work. Each student in the course covers a beat, or topic, for the semester. Students research, write, and rewrite two feature stories and one opinion column on their beats. Each student has also created a blog to record his or her progress in the course.
The students outdid themselves. Thanks to Trent Gillespie, who took all the author photos. Special thanks to HSS webmaster Tom Trelogan, who designed this site, and instructional designer Nick Eastham, who helped publish the site.
One of the great things about the Web is the ease with which readers and journalists can communicate. We'd love to know what you think about the site, the stories, and the blogs. To comment on a story, visit the individual author's blog, which you can link to from the bio on the story page. To comment on the site itself, contact Lynn Klyde-Silverstein, Assistant Professor of Journalism and Mass Communications.

Before the lifts start running, Winter Park is a quiet and serene place. The hanging chairs swing silently back in forth in the wind, untouched snow sparkling on the ground below as the morning sun breaks through the clouds. The lifts, lodges and slopes will soon be busy with people, but for now the empty mountain waits.
