Welcome to Gree-ality
Greeley will soon have a new mayor and serveral new City Council members. It is important to understand the issues behind the candidates. Students often have different concerns than the general public, so it is necessary to get to know the candidates from a student perspective. Through this Web site, students in UNC's Reporting Contemporary Issues class hope to give their fellow students an understanding of the how the election affects them.
candidate profiles
The candidates for the 2009 Greeley City Council Elections are a diverse group of people. Ed Phillipsen, a mayoral candidate, has been serving on City Council since 2001. John Gates, running for the Ward III seat, has no previous government experience. Donna Sapienza, running for the Ward II seat, is a retired teacher. Such different backgrounds should make for an interesting election. We interviewed each of the candidates and found out what they will do for students if elected.
what does the election outcome mean for UNC students?
We're working to find out how the new mayor and City Council members will work with UNC to make Greeley a better place for college students.
