  The IS Major

Because International Studies is an emphasis area of the Interdisciplinary Studies Program, you must be admitted to Interdisciplinary Studies before you can be admitted to International Studies. Applications can be obtained from the Office of the Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, CO 80639.

You also must apply to the International Studies Program. Applications may be obtained from the Economics program’s administrative assistant in Michener L130. A 2.6 grade point average is required to be admitted to, and to graduate from the International Studies Program.

To obtain your degree, you’ll need to meet all the requirements of the UNC general education program, which includes skills courses, such as composition and mathematics, as well as, among other things, multi-cultural and interdisciplinary studies.

International Studies Program requirements are made up of four components:

  1. core courses in economics, geography, political science, and quantitative methods and research
  2. area studies in Africa and the Middle East, Asia, Europe, or Latin America
  3. language proficiency in a language compatible with your area studies, and
  4. an undergraduate thesis, in which you complete focused research on an international topic of personal interest

A complete statement of the requirements for the B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies with an Emphasis in International Studies is available in the UNC Catalog. Catalog.
