Regardless of where the data exists the data must be managed and handled securely. This includes media disposition. A key element in assuring data confidentiality is the disposal of that data. |

Digital media containing Confidential or Personally Identifiable (PII) data must be disposed of in a secure manner. To help facilitate this on the UNC campus Information Technology has established processes and procedures to safely and securely dispose of various types of digital media that contain confidential or PII data. |

If you need to dispose of such items as CDs, DVDs, or floppy disks we have provided a secure drop bin in the basement of Carter Hall. You can bring your media to the Carter Hall Data Center window (Carter 10) and an operator will be happy to assist you. The window is open Monday through Friday from 7am-5pm. |
