What is an Investiture?

Put simply, an investiture is "the act of establishing in office or ratifying."1 These formal ceremonies mark the official installation of a leader within a particular position—most often one of great importance and responsibility. Contemporary examples include the investiture of U.S. Supreme Court Justices, elected officials and, yes, college and university presidents.

Campus and Community Reception

The Investiture Celebration was followed by a Campus Commons Grand Opening and Open House for campus and community guests. Student and faculty performing and visual artists were on hand to showcase their talents in the building’s new practice, performance and exhibit spaces. Likewise, UNC staff in Admissions, Orientation and other Student Services offices welcomed visitors for open house conversations about their new spaces and the accentuated services they facilitate.
