Mission

Instructional Design and Development partners with faculty to design and develop courses and interactive resources using innovative technology to improve teaching, student engagement, and student learning.

Vision

IDD will support and grow a learning community of faculty partners working to transform course content into innovative, engaging learning experiences that advance and expand student learning and access to a high-quality education.

Strategic Goals and Objectives

Goal 1: Faculty and other stakeholders view IDD as valued partners in creating and supporting high quality learning experiences for students.

  • Objective 1.1: Increase the number of academic programs partnering with IDD on developing new online programs.
  • Objective 1.2: Implement digital learning objects initiative with faculty partners.
  • Objective 1.3: Increase the number of faculty adopting tools and resources created by IDD.
  • Objective 1.4: Increase campus stakeholder knowledge about the role and value of IDD.

Goal 2: IDD promotes educational innovation in course and program design and development.

  • Objective 2.1: Secure internal and external funding and support for educational technology, including software and studio space.
  • Objective 2.2: Develop online and face-to-face resources and training materials that support faculty use of educational technology in course design and development.
  • Objective 2.3: Construct virtual and in-person spaces that promote collaboration, creativity, and innovation.

Goal 3: IDD processes and products reflect best practices in supporting student learning, equity, and inclusion.

  • Objective 3.1: Increase use of data on student outcomes and equity gaps to inform the design process and project development.
  • Objective 3.2: Incorporate engaged learning strategies to promote greater sense of student belonging in online courses.
  • Objective 3.3: Develop and promote authentic assessment practices for online learning environments.
  • Objective 3.4: Increase the number of courses that meet quality standards.

Goal 4: IDD is a desirable place to work that attracts, develops, and retains talented people.

  • Objective 4.1: Incorporate commitment to equity and inclusion in all hiring and evaluation processes.
  • Objective 4.2: Support ongoing professional development that benefits the department and the employees.
  • Objective 4.3: Maintain a department culture that is collaborative, supportive, and welcoming to all employees.
  • Objective 4.4: Recognize and celebrate individual and team accomplishments.
